Walden International Baccalaureate  Diploma Programme

The Walden International Baccalaureate Program aims to develop international-mindedness in a global context. The IB program creates a learning community in which students increase their understanding of language and culture, which help them to become more globally engaged and ready for college. Walden will start its first Diploma Program cohort in 2015-2016 for grades 11 & 12.

An IB education is unique because of its rigorous academic and personal standards. Students must complete advanced studies in six subject areas: a primary language, secondary language, social studies, science, mathematics, and arts or elective.

Evaluated not only on final examinations upon course completion, students are also assessed by examiners from around the world on in-class work. The in-school performance recognizes diversified learning styles in each subject area: group work, portfolios, investigative papers, oral presentations and projects. This detail and flexibility of assessment is how the International Baccalaureate Program is geared to all motivated learners.

IB programmes challenge students to excel not only in their studies, but also in their personal growth. IB Diploma students must demonstrate success in a challenging yet exciting seminar course on critical thinking and communication called the Theory of Knowledge. Independent learning is also evaluated by submission of original research that consists of a 4,000 word

thesis. Finally, IB students must verify meaningful commitment outside of school by documenting and reflecting on some 150 hours of community involvement.
